The Portal should work for everyone.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use the National Attendance Portal, regardless of disability, access need, device, technology or method of interaction.
Our commitment
SENDsational Education Ltd is committed to making the National Attendance Portal as accessible and inclusive as reasonably possible.
Accessibility is considered when we design pages, develop resources, add interactive tools and publish new content.
We recognise that accessibility is not a one-off exercise. A website of this scale changes frequently, and accessibility therefore requires continued review and improvement.
We use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as our principal technical accessibility benchmark and seek to make reasonable adjustments when a user encounters a barrier.
Using the National Attendance Portal
Our aim is that users should be able to:
- navigate key content using a keyboard;
- zoom text and page content without losing essential information;
- use headings and page structure to understand content;
- use descriptive link text wherever practicable;
- read content with appropriate contrast;
- use the site on desktop, tablet and mobile devices;
- access meaningful alternative text for important images;
- avoid unnecessary motion where reduced-motion settings are enabled;
- access important information without relying only on colour;
- request an alternative format where a resource creates a significant accessibility barrier.
Our accessibility standard
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, known as WCAG, provide an internationally recognised framework for making digital content more accessible.
The National Attendance Portal uses WCAG 2.2 Level AA as its target standard.
We do not currently claim that every page, historic document, third-party embed and interactive resource has been independently audited and found fully conformant with every WCAG 2.2 AA success criterion.
This is intentionally transparent. The Portal contains a large and growing library of resources and some functionality is supplied by third parties. We are continuing to identify and resolve accessibility issues as part of the Portal's ongoing development.
Known or potential accessibility limitations
Some areas may not yet provide the same level of accessibility as the main website. These may include:
- older PDFs or presentation files;
- complex spreadsheets or editable templates;
- historic images that do not yet have sufficiently detailed alternative text;
- third-party video players or embedded content;
- interactive resources hosted using external platforms;
- documents originally designed primarily for printing;
- some charts, diagrams or visually complex professional resources.
We will prioritise barriers that prevent users accessing essential information or functionality.
Documents, templates and downloads
The Portal contains downloadable PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, Word documents and other professional resources.
We aim to improve the accessibility of new resources and review existing resources as they are revised.
If you need a resource in a different format because of an accessibility requirement, contact us and tell us:
- the name of the resource;
- the page where you found it;
- the format you require; and
- any particular access requirement that would help us respond.
We will consider reasonable alternative formats wherever practicable.
Third-party websites and embedded content
The National Attendance Portal links to useful resources published by government departments, education organisations, charities, research bodies, video providers and other external organisations.
We cannot control the accessibility of an external website once a visitor leaves the Portal.
Some embedded services are also technically controlled by their provider. We nevertheless aim to select appropriate services and provide an alternative route to important information where it is reasonably possible to do so.
Tell us if you encounter a barrier
Accessibility feedback is welcomed.
If you cannot access something you need, experience difficulty using an interactive resource, or believe we could present information more effectively, please contact us.
Please include the page or resource concerned and describe the difficulty you experienced. This helps us investigate the problem and consider an appropriate reasonable adjustment.
Testing and review
This statement was prepared on 22 August 2026.
Accessibility will be reviewed as the National Attendance Portal develops, particularly following major changes to navigation, templates, interactive functionality or third-party technology.
We intend to review this statement at least annually and sooner where a significant accessibility issue or major website change requires it.
Accessibility is part of the Portal's wider commitment to inclusion, belonging and removing unnecessary barriers to participation.
